Rounds 6 & 7 Oulton Park
Saturday 17th July 2021
Action guaranteed as Civics get set for Oulton Park outing
If the previous outings are anything to go buy, then rounds six and seven of this year’s Milltek Civic Cup are going to be all action affairs at this Saturday’s (17th July) meeting at Oulton Park, inspired by the circuit’s combination of fast straights, varied corners and undulating topography. And with another packed grid – this time comprising 19 Cup Class competitors and seven in the Production Class – the racing is likely to be as close as ever for this mid-summer event in the season’s 16-round calendar.
The only driver with two wins under his belt so far is Alistair Camp, who heads up the Cup Class drivers’ standings in his Area Motorsport run car. He’s followed closely by Kenetic Motorsport’s Dave Buky who is just five points behind, albeit with no wins but a podium finish and a series of consistent results to his credit.
A further five points separates Matt Luff and his Area Motorsport team-mate Jamie Tonks, who are currently tied in third place. Having scored in the first of the three Brands Hatch races, Luff will certainly be a driver to watch this weekend – as will Tonks, who is another podium regular having visited the top-three platform three times so far this season.
Ben Sharpe is the only other driver to have reached the top step in 2021. Having scored a well-deserved victory in the second of the Brands Hatch races in his self-run car, he currently lies eighth in the championship, although he won’t be making an appearance this weekend.
In the Production Class for Civics with fewer modifications, it’s Alfie Threlfall who holds the advantage after five rounds. Hardly surprising really, having scored an impressive full-house at Brands Hatch, winning all three races on the bounce.
However, a win in the opening round at Cadwell Park in the rain followed by two podium finishes at Brands, sees Mervyn Beckett in second place 11 points behind, whilst Alfie’s brother Harry is third a further nine points back. All race with the MJ Motorsport team, the acknowledged Production Class specialists.
With word getting around that if you race a Honda then the Milltek Sport Civic Cup is the place to be, championship organisers are pleased to welcome three new drivers onto the grid for this weekend’s Oulton Park meeting: Darren Meddings (Area Motorsport), Max Lewis (Mintro Motorsport) and Rob Phillips (North Wales Aiir Conditioning), all running in the Cup Class.
The Milltek Sport Civic Cup action around the 2.26-mile Island configuration of the Cheshire track gets underway with a Free Practice session at 08.30, followed by Qualifying at 10.10 before the two 15-minute races scheduled for 12.35 and 15.10. Live streaming coverage can be found on Facebook @CivicCupOfficial.

About the Championship
The Milltek Sport Civic Cup comprises two classes: The Cup Class, for EP3, FN2 and FK models manufactured between 2001 and 2011 with a limited number of modifications permitted; and the Production Class, for EP3 and FN2 Type-R models manufactured between 2001 and 2005.
In all cases, cars must be fitted with Honda’s 2-litre K-Series engine and retain many of the standard OE components. Only controlled performance parts may be fitted. Consequently, costs are kept to a minimum and competition remains close throughout the season.
