Jones aims for 5 out of 5

18 year old Stuart Jones of Welshpool is in only his first full year of rallying but already has his sights on 5 possible championships.

Stuart son of “Mad” Mick Jones did a mixture of events throughout last year, starting in a Talbot Sunbeam before moving to a Peugeot 206. Now in the Mick Jones Timber supported Peugeot he has his sights set on glory in the Peugeot 206 Winter Cup,and the Peugeot 206 superCup.

Although the super cup is the main goal Jones wants to compete in as many events in the car as possible to gain experience and as such will be looking for class success in the BTRDA, welsh clubmans forest and tarmac championships. As well as taking in as many foreign tarmac events as possible.

Starting with the Wyedean he will be seen out on the next three weekends as he follows this up with an outing on the Telford Stages at Sweet lamb and then the Bournemouth Winter Rally. The Peugeot Winter Cup is the first aim, currently lying in 3rd place he knows that a win in Bournemouth and a couple of results going his way will see him walk away with the Championship, and he has every reason to believe he can win it “We have had fastest times on both of the rounds run so far” said Jones. “3rd place on the first round in Galloway was encouraging and if it hadn’t been for dropping nearly a minute with 4 high speed spins that even torvill and dean would of been proud of on the icy 1st stage of the Red Kite the times we achieved would have seen us battling for another podium spot” Instead Stuart’s storming recovery drive saw him get back up to 4th on the final stage, leaving him firmly in the battle for honours.

Alongside Stuart for the first time on the Wyedean will be 26 year old Richard Edwards of Wolverhampton. Richard has experience of the Peugeot Cups from the past three years and has also completed the Rally GB and won his class in Barbados.
